My route suggestions for your trip to Mexico

🏄 10 days on the Pacific coast: surfing, sunsets & seafood
Start in Puerto Vallarta, chill in San Pancho & Sayulita with a surfboard and margarita, then on to Mazatlán with its colonial flair and wide beaches. This route offers laid-back beach towns, fresh fish dishes and real Mexico away from the crowds.

🌴 2 weeks Yucatán & Caribbean: culture, cenotes & corals
From Cancún to Valladolid to colonial alleyways, then swimming in the cenotes and marveling at Chichén Itzá. Continue via Tulum with its beach vibes and Instagram temples to the island of Cozumel or Bacalar - turquoise lagoon included. Perfect for sun, culture & the sound of the sea.

🛕 3 weeks in central Mexico & the Pacific: highlands & hippie flair
Mexico City with street art, Aztec history & rooftop tacos. On to Oaxaca with its colorful market life, then to the sea in Puerto Escondido. Here, culture, cuisine and the coast combine to create a road trip that tickles the soul.

🧭Extra tip: explore the Sierra Gorda or Chiapas
If you want to delve deeper, travel to the mountains of Querétaro or to Chiapas with its rainforest, ruins and coffee plantations. Less touristy, but with real magic and the power of nature.

Costs and budget

Approximately how much does a trip to Mexico cost?

✈️ Flights & travel
Direct flights, e.g. to Cancún or Mexico City, often from € 700-950. Domestic flights with Volaris or Viva Aerobus from €30.

🚐 Bus & transport
Long-distance buses such as ADO are cheap & comfortable (e.g. €5-8 for a 3-4 hour journey). Rental car approx. 25-40 €/day, gasoline cheap - watch driving style relaxed!

🛏️ Accommodation & food
Hostels from €8-15, charming Airbnbs from €25. Good food from €2 on the street, €6-10 in restaurants. Tipping (10-15 %) is customary.

🎟️ Entrance fees & activities
Ruins usually €5-15, cenotes €3-10, snorkeling/boat tours from €20-40. Local guided tours often cheap & worthwhile.

💡 My tip: Don't change too much cash at the airport - ATMs in cities & supermarkets are cheaper. And: Pack sunscreen & mosquito spray - definitely!

🛵 San Pancho instead of Sayulita

Sayulita is hip - but San Pancho is more relaxed, greener and more authentic. Ideal for unwinding.

🌮 Eating at markets - without fear!

Often more hygienic & tastier than expected. My insider tip: fresh ceviche on the roadside in cool boxes. Sounds wild, tastes great.

When the first rays of sunshine rise over the temples by the sea, goosebumps are guaranteed - almost alone, before the crowds arrive.
