The city-state of superlatives:
Singapore is much more than just an airport stopover. Between futuristic gardens, rooftop bars and Asian street food markets, a melting pot of cultures unfolds. Here, high-gloss technology, rainforest greenery and historic districts merge into an experience you will never forget.
Singapore highlights: My personal favorites
Gardens by the Bay and Supertree Grove
A futuristic urban garden with glowing giant trees, suspension bridges and waterfalls in the greenhouse - simply magical.
Hawker Center & street food culture
Whether chili crab, laksa or satay - the open-air food stalls are a culinary paradise for little money.
Stroll around the bay, enjoy light shows & skylines and treat yourself to a drink at the world-famous Marina Bay Sands Rooftop Bar.
Marina Bay & Skyline Nights
My route suggestions for your trip to Singapore
🌆 3 days of city discovery: culture, colonial style & culinary delights
Explore Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam - each corner tells its own story. Between colonial buildings and street art, you can enjoy street food, temple visits and historic markets. Ideal for anyone who wants to experience Singapore with soul.
🍃 4 days of nature & modernity: green wonders & urban style
Start with a hike in the MacRitchie Reservoir with treetop walk, then marvel at the skyline at the Gardens by the Bay and immerse yourself in Sentosa's tropical side. An exciting mix of nature & technology in the middle of the city.
🌉 5 days Singapore intensive: from rooftop to rainforest
Breakfast with a skyline view, culture & street food during the day, a visit to the botanical garden or a skywalk in the afternoon, rooftop cocktail & marina light show in the evening. An intense experience for all the senses - full of contrasts, texture & passion.
🌏 Extra tip: Use Singapore as a stopover hub
Perfect for 2-3 days between two destinations: Explore the highlights in compact form, relax at Jewel-Changi Airport with its waterfall & garden, and fly on refreshed - there are few better places to do this.
Costs and budget
Approximately how much does a trip to Singapore cost?
✈️ Flights & travel
Direct flights from Germany are usually €700-1000, stopovers in Dubai or Doha, for example, are often cheaper.
🚇 Transportation & public transport
The MRT is clean, air-conditioned & super cheap. Day tickets cost under €5. Cabs are available but not necessary.
🛏️ Accommodation & meals
Hostels from €25-40, hotels from €80. Food is unbeatably cheap in hawker centers: usually €3-6 for a filling portion.
🎟️ Entrance fees & activities
Many parks & highlights such as Marina Bay Lightshow are free of charge. Gardens by the Bay, museums or Sentosa cost 10-30 €.
💡 My tip: Make sure you get an EZ-Link card - it's a cheap and contactless way to travel by bus and train. And try “Kaya Toast” for breakfast - sweet, buttery, typically Singaporean.
Personal tips
My best learnings for the road - straight from my adventures.
🚶 On foot or with MRT - no detours
Singapore is perfectly connected. You can get everywhere by MRT & on foot - quickly, cleanly & safely.
🍍 Try local snacks - even if they sound strange
Durian ice cream, kaya toast or pandan cake - Singapore's cuisine surprises and delights (not always at first bite 😉).
No eating on the MRT, no chewing gum, no smoking in parks. Singapore is not a place for breaking rules - but for respect and amazement.
📵 Know the rules - avoid penalties
My favorite moments in pictures
From the glitter of Marina Bay at night to steaming bowls of soup at the Hawker Centre, Singapore was like walking through the future with a smile from the past. Here you will find impressions of a city that is more than just modern: it is magical.
