Chiang Mai & the North

Temples, jungle trekking, night markets & elephants - the north is authentic, green and deeply rooted in culture.

Bangkok & the urban jungle

Golden palaces, endless street food & the chaos of the metropolis - Bangkok is wild, loud, delicious and full of life.

From the turquoise waters of Koh Phi Phi to the tranquillity of Koh Lanta, Thailand's island world is a dream for sun worshippers and snorkelers.

My route suggestions for your trip to Thailand

🌆 10-day classic tour: Bangkok, culture & coast
Start in Bangkok between the palace, tuk-tuks and street food, then take the train to Ayutthaya to visit ancient temple ruins. From day 6, take a domestic flight to Krabi: dream beaches, longtail boats and sunsets on Ao Nang Beach await - culture and coastal feeling in one!

🌄 2 weeks north & jungle: adventures away from the crowds
Explore Chiang Mai, trek through the rainforest with an overnight stay in a village, travel by bus or train to Pai - a hippie village in the countryside with hot springs. This route shows you the original Thailand with spirituality, mountains & a real local vibe.

🏖️ 3 weeks of island hopping in southern Thailand: sun, snorkeling & Thai curries
Starting in Phuket or Krabi, then on to Koh Phi Phi, Koh Lanta and finally to Koh Lipe - by boat, scooter & flip-flops. White beaches, turquoise water, coral reefs & laid-back bungalows - this route is pure Thailand and perfect for unwinding.

🐘 Extra tip: Experience slow travel & animal ethics
Avoid elephant rides - visit an ethical sanctuary in Chiang Mai instead, support local markets instead of chains & stay longer in one place. Thailand wins when you take your time.

Costs and budget

✈️ Flights & Arrival
Direct flights to Bangkok often start from € 650-850. Open jaw flights with a stopover can be cheaper - e.g. via Dubai or Doha.

🛵 Transportation & movement
Trains & buses throughout the country cheap & reliable. Domestic flights often under 40 €. Scooters: approx. 5-8 €/day - watch out for safety!

🛏️ Accommodation & Catering
Hostels & bungalows from €8-20, mid-range hotels from €30-50. Street food from 1-3 €, restaurants approx. 5-10 € per meal.

🎟️ Entrance fees & activities
Many temples are free or 1-3 €, national parks approx. 3-5 €. Tours such as snorkeling, cooking courses or trekking cost €20-50.

💡 My tip: Leave the tourist trails - 15 minutes' walk from the hotspot is often enough and you are suddenly alone with the sunset. Also: take mosquito spray with you - always!

Personal tips

My best learnings for the road - straight from my adventures.

🛵 Scooter riding in Pai & Koh Lanta

Both places are perfect for scooter adventures - little traffic, fantastic landscapes and plenty of stops to linger.

🍜 Eat where the locals eat

The food stalls with the little plastic stools are usually the best - just sit down, smile and try.

Thailand rewards you for slowing down - talk to locals, stay longer in one place and let go of plans. This often brings the best moments.
